Coffee at the Claptons
This is a photo that I took on July 25, 1986 in the "back yard" (estate) of Patti Boyd and Eric Clapton's house in the UK. Ronnie Lane, Stanley Lane and I were visiting them and had a lovely day and night. It was an incredibly normal day and we hung out like I do with my friends in Austin. We bought Indian food and brought it back to their house and watched the British show, Splitting Image on television in a small comfy kitchen. It was so much fun and we had so many laughs. We also celebrated my 34th birthday with everyone singing “Happy Birthday” on the front steps before we departed for London.
I didn’t take any photos inside the house, or of our hosts, I felt it was opportunistic, but I did take photos on the grounds outside. I've looked at this photo so many times over the years and when I recently looked at it again, I noticed a coffee cup on the steps. It's funny that I never noticed it until Zed, my son, pointed it out to me. It added a warm and homey feeling to the photo and it meant something different to me than when I took the photo so many years ago.
